Mission and Vision

The mission of Flourish is to connect the community to free, high-quality infant feeding support and education. Flourish envisions an increase in human milk feeding rates to reduce racial, economic, and health disparities while promoting the well-being of families and the community.

Milk Matters is a program of Flourish, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2015 in Bloomington, Indiana.

Commitment to Health Equity

All Hoosier families do not have equal access to healthcare, healthy foods, health education, or other health promoting resources for a wide variety of reasons. This means that some Hoosiers may have worse health outcomes than other Hoosiers that have greater access to healthcare, healthy foods, education, and other resources. Where you live in Indiana can have a big impact on health; often more rural counties have less help for families having problems with infant feeding and making milk. Even when a family has access to healthcare and healthy resources, it might not be given in a personalized way to meet a family’s unique needs and challenges. Language barriers, lack of money, racial, cultural, and education level differences can make it hard for families to get the best results possible from their healthcare options.

Milk Matters has virtual drop-in meetings to make it easier for Hoosier families in counties outside of Monroe County to meet with our lactation consultants. If you live outside Monroe County and do not have internet service to access our virtual meetings or transportation for in-person meetings, please email us to explore other ways to get lactation and infant feeding support in your county (milkmattersbloomington@gmail.com).
